We have been in Germany for a month - well tomorrow, the 13th, but we started traveling on the 12th. I remember from friends that traveled abroad for 6 months - it was all go go go and see as much as possible and do do do. But those that were going for a year or more .... the beginning was slower - there is so much more to set up, routines to establish, nesting to make a home. And that is us ... especially now that we only walk as fast as a two year old.
Ben's feet and attention make for a slower getting to know you time, but perhaps a more deep experience. We know every gate, every little dip in the walk, every extra step to jump up on or down on our (side of the) street; we make bouquets of leaves - different colors everyday; and we are slowly tasting our way through the meat counter (they give out samples of meat to little kids). (And yes, I found the meat in the shape of a teddy bear).
And if I get too impatient with Ben or with myself, I just need to remember - this is enough - THIS that we are doing right now is perfect.
